Hello,

I am a mechanical engineer with little to no background in DSP selection. Our team is looking to create a microphone/speaker communicaiton system for a person with a soft voice. Can I get some guidance as to the major DSP components to look for with our selected application. We know that we would like a steep high pass filter, a mild EQ preferably parametric to optimize the voice frequencies, auto muting when not talking, and compression (to better control gutteral throat sounds while talking). Optional bonus items include a mic preamp and bias function. I have been directed to the C5000 Series DSP, but am unsure how to make a further selection from there.

    I suggest you take a look at the eZdsp for $99, a TI evaluation board made by Spectrum Digital. It has a C5535 DSP and a TLV320AIC3204 codec; it probably has most of what you are looking for. You should be able to use it prototype a good portion of your needed functionality. The codec can be configured to do filtering, although, I'm not sure if it's exactly what you are looking.
