Hello Srini,
If you unset the bootenv from the U-Boot stage
U-Boot# setenv bootenv U-Boot# saveenv
loading the uEnv.txt will be skipped.
More boot time optimization techniques can be found on this page.

Change the mmcboot:
from
mmcboot=mmc dev ${mmcdev}; if mmc rescan; then echo SD/MMC found on device ${mmcdev};if run loadbootenv; then echo Loaded environment from ${bootenv};run importbootenv;fi;if test -n $uenvcmd; then echo Running uenvcmd ...;run uenvcmd;fi;if run loadimage; then run mmcloados;fi;fi;
to
mmcboot=run mmcloados;
U-Boot# setenv mmcboot run mmcloados U-Boot# saveenv
Keep in mind loading the environment variables from uEnv.txt on this device will no longer work.
Dear Kemal,
One more input from you how can I alone set only lpj using setenv
Ie., I tried setting using the command
setenv optargs lpj 3590144
But the above command is not working, could you please let me know how can I alone set only lpj using setenv
And also how can I fix only kloadaddr using setenv?
Kindly do the needful
Many thanks in advance
Since the lpj is a part of the bootargs. You must change the bootargs parameters.
U-Boot# setenv bootargs console=ttyO1,115200n8 ip=off lpj=3590144 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 ro rootfstype=ext4 rootwait U-Boot# saveenv
In same way you can fix the kloadaddr
U-Boot# setenv kloadaddr address U-Boot# saveenv
Dear Kemal,
Thanks a lot for your inputs, could you please help me out with few more queries
1. In the kloadaddr should we mention the numerical value of the address or only the word "address" is sufficient??
2. In Disabling the console output using "quiet" ie., if I use the below command, am unable to see the messages related to console
setenv optargs quiet
But could you please let me know if I want to renable the console messages & if I want to disable the quiet, how this can be done, am asking this because today it got saved to EMMC by default (as usually I would set using fwsetenv in rootfs prompt, once after kernel & rootfs is up) & when I wanted console messages, I was unable to get it
3. Does the bootargs quiet & CONFIG_SILENT_CONSOLE 1 or setenv silent 1 are same??
4. I similar fashion, could you please let me know how to disable SPL & u-boot related console messages & how can I renable if it is required for time being using setenv
5. One of the links I found that remove -g option is also one of optimization techniques, but am unable to find & remove the "-DDEBUG" and/or "-DBGFLAGS" (-g) in config.mk file of u-boot or kernel (as am using ti sdk 8)
6. And one more input, how can I avoid saving all these bootargs to EMMC for time being, because finally once everything is fine tuned & verified this can be saved to EMMC once for all, Is stopping in uboot & loading the images via NFS might be the only option to avoid saving to EMMC for ??
Kindly do the needful as early as possible
Many Thanks in advance

Dear Kemal,
Many Thanks a lot for your detailed description, that really helped me lot
Two more inputs w.r.t boot time optimization,
1. Is ti possible for me to skip u-boot stage & load kernel ,
could you please provide me with detailed steps how this can be accomplished
2. Regarding the deffered Initialization, will the below command
echo 1 >/proc/deferred_initcalls will revoke the loading of modules dynamically (similar to insmod or modprobe)
Is my understanding is correct??
Many Many Thanks a lot for your support & would appreciate the same
Sri S said:1. Is ti possible for me to skip u-boot stage & load kernel ,

The detailed steps are here ti-sdk-am335x-evm-08.00.00.00/board-support/u-boot-2014.07-g7e537bf/board/ti/am335x/README and here ti-sdk-am335x-evm-08.00.00.00/board-support/u-boot-2014.07-g7e537bf/doc/README.falcon

The deferred_initcalls will defer the init calls within the statically linked kernel modules. It is not designed to invoke module loading like insmod and modprobe.
Sri S said:As I didn't find time to go through Falcon mode & I haven't tried Could you please provide me with the detailed steps, so that I can verify the same
Falcon Mode: FAT SD cards
=========================
In this case the additional file is written to the filesystem. In this
example we assume that the uImage and device tree to be used are already on
the FAT filesystem (only the uImage MUST be for this to function
afterwards) along with a Falcon Mode aware MLO and the FAT partition has
already been created and marked bootable:
U-Boot # mmc rescan
# Load kernel and device tree into memory, perform export
U-Boot # load mmc 1:1 ${loadaddr} uImage
U-Boot # run findfdt
U-Boot # load mmc 1:1 ${fdtaddr} ${fdtfile}
U-Boot # run mmcargs
U-Boot # spl export fdt ${loadaddr} - ${fdtaddr}
This will print a number of lines and then end with something like:
Using Device Tree in place at 80f80000, end 80f85928
Using Device Tree in place at 80f80000, end 80f88928
So then you:
U-Boot # fatwrite mmc 1:1 0x80f80000 args 8928
Sri S said:1. Since because of getting the root login prompt is consuming boot time 15sec more as shown in the log attached above, I want to disable the root login in arago-base-tisdk-image-am335x-evm file system, I tried commenting sulogin in etc/inittab, but still am getting the prompt
Anyways I need finally a prompt , is there any chance I can disable this login & make use of bin/sh, so that this time can be reduced to a great extent, if this possible could you please let me know the necessary changes that needs to be done in etc/inittab, so that I can get the shell using bin/sh in argo-base rootfs
Amend the O0:12345:respawn:/sbin/getty 115200 ttyO0 line to O0:12345:respawn:/bin/login -f root ttyO0 </dev/ttyO0 >/dev/ttyO0 2>&1 to bypass the login prompt.
Sri S said:2. Am facing the below error , Hope w.r.t the eMMC, could you please let me know your suggestions/inputs w.r.t the below error, ie., am I missing or doing anything anything wrong to get the below error

Sri S said:4. Could you please let me know, is there any chances that I can disable even INIT related boot messages onto the console, as I have already disable u-boot & kernel messages using SILENT_CONSOLE & QUIET & just get the shell prompt using bin/sh in arago-base rootfs
INIT related boot messages comes up from the sysvinit program. They can be disabled at compile time by editing the log levels in init.h
Dear Kemal,
Many Many Thanks a lot for your detailed steps it would be really helpful for me & others as well
1. Am able to get shell prompt but CTRL-C is not working with the shell without using login prompt after doing the below changes
Amend the O0:12345:respawn:/sbin/getty 115200 ttyO0 line to O0:12345:respawn:/bin/login -f root ttyO0 </dev/ttyO0 >/dev/ttyO0 2>&1 to bypass the login prompt.
Could you please help me to get CTRL-C CTRL-Z CTRL-X to get working with the shell without using login prompt , beacuse am running an application where am unable to stop it using CTRL-C
Dear Kemal,
2. Am planning to reduce the rootfs size where I want to remove the unwanted libraries & binaries required for my application, could you please let me know where I can I get the information that this binary/library is for this purpose or any specific application or services?? if there is any document or link would be helpful, could you please provide me
3. I am planning to stop running udev, even i tried running udev in backgorund but it gave me few seconds improvement but if I remove udev, could you please let me know how hot-plug devices can be managed without udev , could you please let me know is there any hotpluggable scripts available for ethernet or USB which am uisng in this product,
I noticed if I remove udev, it gives me a bootup time of 8 sec other wise it is 17 sec
Kindly do the needful as early as possible
Many Thanks in advance
Dear Kemal,
Am really impressed with your support w.r.t all the threads
1. Any inputs w.r.t the CTRL-C getting working on shell prompt, I hope some modifications needs to be done in rc or rcS file could you please let me know how this can be done
2. I hope mdev is light weight process than udev, could you pls let em know how this can be cross_compiled & installed in arago-base rootfs,
or
am starting the system with udev enabled & make kind of a backup of the created device nodes. Now modify the init script like this: instead of running udev, copy the device nodes that I had jus made a backup inot /dev/ folder does this works, is this reliable?? could you please confirm or any harm in the future??
And now am planning to install hotplug-daemon, could you please let me know how this hotplug dameon can now be installed
I hope this udev is only now my major concern
Kindly do the needful as early as possible
Many Many Thanks in advance again
Sri S said:1. Any inputs w.r.t the CTRL-C getting working on shell prompt, I hope some modifications needs to be done in rc or rcS file could you please let me know how this can be done
CTRL-C does not work because the system console is not allowed to become a controlling tty. If you want to enable the job control run your shell on a real console.
O0:12345:respawn:/bin/login -f root ttyO0 </dev/ttyO0 >/dev/ttyO0 2>&1
Sri S said:2. I hope mdev is light weight process than udev, could you pls let em know how this can be cross_compiled & installed in arago-base rootfs,
There is a thread where the replacement of udev by mdev has been discussed, please refer to this thread e2e.ti.com/.../378223

This feature is called udev-cache and it is already implemented in current SDKs.

Just place the scripts in the appropriate locations. They seem a bit old, I am not sure whether these scripts still working.
Dear Kemal,
The below commands worked Kemal, Could you please let me know how this can be automated in uboot configuration file (ie., include/configs/am335x-evn_config)
