Migrating application to use new pthread support

Here's the system configuration

DRA75x processor (this is an app running on the 66x)
SYS/BIOS, 6.42.02.29
XDCtools 3.30.06.67
IPC 3.30.03.14
XDAIS 7.24.00.04
Code Composer Studio 6.1.0.00104
ti cgt 7.4.15

Attempting to "slowly" migrate to the new pthreads is not working. For example, simply adding this line to the cfg causes the DSP to no longer get to main:

xdc.useModule(‘ti.sysbios.posix.Settings’);

Any suggestions as to what might be the issue? Any migration tips?

Hi Brad,

Just to confirm, the only modification you made to the working app was to pull in the "ti.sysbios.posix.Settings" module ?

Pulling in this module should not cause your application to stop working. We would need to debug this further to know what is causing this. Can you send a screenshot of the callstack of your failing program ?

Correct. It always dies very early, i.e. in _auto_init_elf().

Hi Brad,

Its difficult to tell what is causing the crash from the available info. Can you share a test case that I can use to repro the issue on my end ?

Please share you app.cfg also.

Thanks for your replies. I think we're making some progress in debugging this issue. Preliminary investigation looks like this might be a generic memory mapping issue (i.e. issue seems to correlate directly with code size). We're looking into it more closely on our end. Let's pause this thread while we investigate. I'll report back once I have some more details.

I have some new info... First, I want to clarify that in terms of the code we are enabling pthreads in the cfg and adding small bit of C code to create a pthread. We can get to main if we add the following line:

BIOS.libType = BIOS.LibType_Custom;

Commenting out that line causes it to fail. Does that make any more sense?

Hi Brad,

I don't see how changing the lib type is helping here. I tried building a pthread example with all possible lib types and was able to get all of them to work.

Can you share a test case I can use to repro the issue on my end ?
