C6674: Can the PASS PLL be left in bypass mode in applications that do not use the Network Coprocessor?

Hello,

I am working on custom hardware that uses a C6674. The Network Coprocessor is not used in my application, and power domain 2 (Packet Coprocessor) is powered down. Is there any need for me to configure the PASS PLL in this situation, or can I safely leave PASS PLL Control Registers 0 and 1 at their default values?

Hello Butters,

To my understanding, if you are not using the network coprocessor in your application, there is no need to configure the PASS PLL. However i will check on leaving the PASS PLL Control Registers 0 and 1 to their default value and update you.

Hello Butters,

Yes you can leave the PASS PLL unconfigured with the registers at their default values. By default the PLL is in bypass mode so the multiplier/divider/bwadj values will not matter.

As a sanity check, you could just read the BYPASS bit (bit 23) in PASSPLLCTL0 to make sure it is 1 i.e. in bypass.
