tms320c6416 dsp starter kit

Greetings:

I am seriously planning to buy a couple of the kits mentioned in the subject header.  However, for my government paid research I will only need to use the DAC/ADC.  I will need to perform loop-back from dac to adc.  I will need a coax or sme connector to easily connect to the dac/adc.  is there one available or a third party vendor of such a connector.   this board is well documented and is perfect for my application.  It looks like the data is stored in array (which is really a pointer). Looks like I can use generic pointers.  I really like this system, but I really need a coax or some easily connectable header to do loop-backs, as i will vary gain.  I will be creating rectangular pulses of varying width and capturing the pulse lengths and digitizing them.  Any idea on how long and short of a rectangular pulse I can create.  What are the dac/adc sampling rates? also do you know the voltage swings of the dac/adc's? will the software run on 64 bit win 7?

Thanks

Bill

  • Hi,

We are working on this and will get back to you shortly.

    Thanks for your patience.

  • Hi Bill,
Sorry for the delayed response on this.

I'm not sure about the connector, you can do some search in internet.

will the software run on 64 bit win 7?

    Which software ?
  • Hi, thanks for the quick response. I am running 64 bit windows 7.  The board does everything I want, ie can load dram with values and write to dac/adc.

However, I really do not want to work with an audio dac/adc as it will not allow me to perform other than audio conversions (ok can do some sine wave stuff). I need a dac/adc that can handle arbitrary waverforms. ie, ok to have a slow data rate.

i would like to have at least two channel dac and adc.

does ti make anything (development systems) that has dac/adc that require no codec?  United electronics has sent me some loopback code, but I am still not getting a firm answer from them regarding access to change register data.  The loopback code references arrays(pointers).  Does ti make a development system with these dac/adc capabilities.  the board i am asking about does everything i need i believe, but i think the audio codec will be an issue.  I have seen fpga stratic iii version with high speed dac/adc sma connectors, but tech support for the device is not good.  finding simple loopback code for the fpga based device is very very difficult.

    thanks again.

i will keep examining the forums

  • Hello William,

To my knowledge, TI does not have any plan to integrate ADC/DAC to the DSP device. You may need to have external data converters to meet your requirement.
