Loading Image to DDR at HPI Boot

Hi.

My customer is using the HPI boot of C6746. With the HPI boot, he writes his application image to DDR in addtion to the internal RAM since he wants to launch the user application at once. Does writing image to DDR cause any problem at the HPI boot? Is it better to restrict the load area to the C6746 internal RAM?

Hi Tsutomu,
You can access the DDR but you have to configure the PLL for DDR controller.

I'd like to ask one more question on this scenario.

I found that we need the privileged access to configure the VTPIO_CTL register for the DDR2 VTP IO buffer calibration. So we cannot use the VTP IO buffer calibration before the host writes application image to the DDR2 through HPI, is it right? I know that the ROM bootloader in the AIS boot executes the VTP IO buffer calibration automatically, but the HPI boot is not an AIS boot.

Hi Tsutomu,
Yes, HPI is not an AIS boot.

Yes we need privilege access to configure the DDR, for some of the SYSCFG register, but I'm not sure about VTP calibration done in RBL or not.

You can write the DDR address location and read back in HPI boot code itself after configured the DDR to make sure that DDR got power up & configured properly.
