Stuck at NameServerRemoteNotify_get in syslink

Hello TI,


We are using DM8148 based custom board and we are using ezsdk_dm814x-evm_5_05_01_04 with syslink version syslink_2_20_00_14.

In our system our capture_encode example sometimes stucks at a point "OsalSemaphore_pend" in function "NameServerRemoteNotify_get". There after it is in the pending state forever.

I am not able to understand, why it stucks there if it is not able to get the server name?

What happens if "NameServerRemoteNotify_get" is not able to find the server name?

In this case how can I exit from my application?

  • This could be many things.

    Would be great to try debugging from the M3-side with CCS - sometimes ROV has interesting details, too.

    One thing I've seen when people mix-n-match M3 images is they forget to set the AMMU up right. There's a shared AMMU, and often "one" M3 sets it up and the "other" goes along for the ride, inheriting the first M3's settings. Might sanity check that your AMMU settings (including cache settings) look right.

    It might be also mismatch in notifyShm address on A8 and VideoM3. Due to this, Notify driver in kernel is not sending event, as it could not find magic value(NOTIFYSHMDRIVER_INIT_STAMP). Fixed by passing ‘notifyk.videom3_sva=0xBFD00000’ to u-boot args. This case is user error configuring something (outside of SysLink) correctly in the kernel.

    You can also try to update to the latest syslink release 2.20.02.20

  • Hi Pavel,

    What is ROV and AMMU? What kind of details should we go for in ROV? How can I check whether I am using correct AMMU Settings? Should it be different for M3-Video and M3-HDVICP?

    In our application we have implemented the example in such a way the we can change the resolution on-the-fly. In that case we will restart our application when we detect resolution change. So when we switch between different resolutions sometimes we face the issue when our applications stucks in NameServerRemoteNotify_get else it works fine all the time. Even when it is stuck and we a resolution change it is able to come out of NameServerRemoteNotify_get and application again starts working fine.

    I will also give it try with the latest available syslink module and will try to figure out if that helps.
