AM57xx EVM Board

Hello TI,

Does the AM57xx EVM support the following so my customer can do testing?

1. Compression H.264 Baseline profile

2. Supported VGA type resolution 640x480 up to 1920 x 1200

3. Support HDTV resolution 480p 720p 1080i 1080p

4. Max latency 70ms end to end

5. Audio interface - analog audio stereo

6. Encode bit rate 1 Mbps to 12 Mbps

7. Constant bit rate support

8. low breathing artifact when setup to low encode rate

9. Use for encoder or decoder

10. support input and output video scaling

11. support 60fps video input(encoder) and output (decoder)

Thanks,

Dan

  • Hi Dan,

I will forward this to the AM57X team.
  • Hello Dan,

I also have question to you. Do you know what is the version of SoC on your customer AM57xx EVM?

Do you know what type of SoC will use your customer - J6 or AM572x and AM571x?

    About your questions:

Does the AM57xx EVM support the following so my customer can do testing?

    1. Compression H.264 Baseline profile

    -  All devices from AM57xx family support H.264 processing - Please take a look on IVA Subsystem chapter in TRM.

    2. Supported VGA type resolution 640x480 up to 1920 x 1200

    - IVA-Subsystem supports - The image size to be encoded is 640(h) × 480(v), VGA-sized.

    Display subsystem has features:

    • Maximum input width of 1920 pixels
    • No limitation on the input height

    3. Support HDTV resolution 480p 720p 1080i 1080p

See section "DISPC Timing and TV Format Settings" in device TRM:

    4. Max latency 70ms end to end

    - Could you explain what type of latency you have in mind?

    5. Audio interface - analog audio stereo

    - See the introduction chapter in device TRM:

    Audio Connectivity Peripherals
    • Eight multichannel audio serial ports (MCASP):
    – Two MCASP supporting up to 16 channels each and independent TX/RX clock/sync domains
    – Six MCASP supporting up to 4 channels each and unified clock/sync domain
    – Features list of the MCASP include:
    • Independent transmit and receive modules, each including programmable clock and frame sync
generator, TDM streams from 2 to 32, support for time slot sizes up to 32 bits, data formatter for
    bit manipulation
    • Glueless connection to audio analog-to-digital converters (ADC), digital-to-analog converters
(DAC), codec, digital audio interface receiver (DIR), and S/PDIF transmit physical layer
    components.
    • Wide variety of I2S and similar bit-stream formats
    • Integrated digital audio interface transmitter (DIT) supporting S/PDIF, IEC60958-1, AES-3
formats, and enhanced channel status/user data RAM
    • 384-slot TDM with external digital audio interface receiver (DIR) device
    • Extensive error checking and recovery

    6. Encode bit rate 1 Mbps to 12 Mbps

    7. Constant bit rate support

    8. low breathing artifact when setup to low encode rate

    9. Use for encoder or decoder

    - The IVA supports resolutions up to 1080 p/i with full performance of 60 fps (or 120 fields), achievable for encode or decode only (not for simultaneous encode and decode)

    The IVA subsystem supports the
following coder/decoder (codec) standards natively; that is, all functions of standards are accelerated
(without intervention of the digital signal processor [DSP]):
    • H.264: BP/MP/HP encode and decode
    • H.264: Fast profile/RCDO encode and decode
    • MPEG-4: SP/ASP encode/decode (no support for GMC)
    • DivX 5.x and higher encode/decode (no lower version; for example, 3.11 and 4.x)
    • H.263: Profile 0 and 3 for decode, profile 0 for encode
    • Sorenson Spark: V0 and V1 decode (no encode support)
    • MPEG-2 SP/MP encode/decode
    • MPEG-1 encode/decode
    • VC-1/WMV9/RTV: SP/MP/AP encode and decode
    • On2™ VP6/VP7 decode
    • RealVideo® 8/9/10 decode
    • AVS 1.0 encode and decode
    • JPEG (also MJPEG) baseline encode/decode
    • H.264 annex G (SVC) scalable baseline profile to 480p–720p30
    • H.264 annex H (MVC) up to 720p30

    10. support input and output video scaling

BB2D module supports - High-quality 9-tap, 32-phase filter for image and video scaling at 1080p

    11. support 60fps video input(encoder) and output (decoder)

    - Yes, SoC supports such speed.

    Best regards,

    Yanko

  • Hi Yanko,

The questions are not if the device itself can support the items above.  We have the datasheet and can see the specs.

The question is if the EVM supports everything in the device data sheet and can the customer test everything and see the video before making their own board.

This question is because they could not fully test the video on a previous TI EVM and now the video does not look good on their current board.  They don't want the same issue this go around.

The EVM we're looking at is the AM572x Evaluation Module.  TMDXEVM5728.  Specific device TBD

    Thanks,

    Dan
