AM335x with 128Mbit NAND flash

Hi,

Hi we need some confirmation about the NAND flash supported by AM335x.
We need to know if AM335x GPMC supports 128Mbit NAND flash "NAND128W3A" (x8 bus)

The TRM mentions "Device from 512Mbit (64MByte)", so do we need to connect
the flash with size 512Mbit or more?
And the "Table 26-14. Supported NAND Devices" mentions the page size as "2048"
but the above flash is only 512+16 Bytes.

Can we assume the above 128Mbit flash is not supported.
Please let us know if there is anything else to be considered when
using a NAND flash for booting.

Hi Kummi,

This device is not supported by AM335X. Supported devices must be either ONFI-compliant or listed in Table 26-14 of the TRM.

if the device is ONFI-compliant can we use NAND flash with size 128Mbit?

The 512Mb minimum size restriction still applies, even if device is ONFI-compliant.

Thank you.
One more confirmation about connecting 8bit NAND Flash.

The TRM "26.1.7.4.2 Initialization and Detection" mentions that
"The data bus width is initially set to 16 bits; and changed
to 8 bits if needed after device parameters determination."

If we are connecting 8bit NAND, then do we need to pull-down the
remainig higher 8bit bus? Is it OK if we use the remaning 8bit bus
for other purposes like LED control?

You don't need to pull down the higher 8 bits. ROM code will detect the bus width by interacting with NAND. As for using these pins for other purposes you must take into account that they will always be initialized to GPMC mode at boot time, and initially there will be bus activity over them in NAND boot mode.
