Support for IEC62439 HSR in AM57x

Hello,

I was wondering whether or not the HSR (IEC62439-3 Clause 5) protocol was feasible using either GbE switch or using the PRU, and if so, what was the performance in terms of forwarding delay.

To know my knowledge the ICSS/PRU only supports 10/100 Mbps.

I can only speak for Linux in answering this question. TI has not done any testing for this protocol in terms of delay on forwarding between ports. In Linux these protocols should work as these are higher level kernel levels, I would recommend testing to be sure with one of the TI dual port Ethernet evms.

Which OS are you planning to use?

Hi Francois,
HSR is a L2 protocol and most likely cannot be implemented using the GbE switch because Layer 2 is in hardware, I guess there may be way out but given the complexity and latencies involved it will not be useful. It is best done on the PRU.

This will definitely be supported on the PRU in future and will come bundled in the Industrial SDK. However I cannot comment on the release dates right now. The forwarding latency will be of the order of ~3 us irrespective of packet size.

I have a little question concerning the forwarding latency. You mention ~3µs latency. Is this latency to be considered from the time the frame is fully received on port A to the time the first bit of the corresponding frame gets out of port B ?
