Price and conditions for AM335x Profibus slave stack.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PROFIBUS, AM1810, SYSBIOS

I have requested information from Technologie und Engineering GmbH twice without getting a reply. Maybe that's the wrong place to ask questions.

Anyone here know how to get information about price and conditions and buy a license?

  • Hi Janne,
TI cannot provide information about price/conditions/licensing, as this is a third-party product. However I will bring this to the attention of the Industrial team. They may provide information how to handle this.
  • Hi Biser,

Thank you for your information. I hope your Industrial team can provide some more info.

  • Janne,
I am so sorry for the issues your company is facing and I am contacting our partner about this post and I will follow up to make sure you get a response.
  • Thank you rogerio!

    /Janne

  • Hi again,

Still no reaction from Technologie und Engineering GmbH. Are they still in business? I have requested information a third time.

Have you managed to get in contact with them?

Do you have any suggestion for some other Profibus-stack to Sitara?

  • Janne,
I sent emails twice to them and no response yet....at this time I am only aware of TMG....we are continuing try to establish contact with them....
  • Thank you for trying. I haven't heard anything either.

This is rather strange. Are we the only company trying to get Profibus up and running on an AM335x? Or are they writing their own stacks?

  • We are also trying to get the Profibus stack (check https://e2e.ti.com/support/arm/sitara_arm/f/791/p/441024/1582167

    Answer from TI:

Thank you for contacting me back.

i talked with the engineer in charge of AM products , he cannot help with this topic.

There is not much we can do as most of the profibus SW is from TMG.

-To contact TMG you could try with the contact page of TMG:
    http://www.tmg-karlsruhe.de/Startseite/kontakt

-Regarding Profibus my understanding is that:
    http://www.ti.com/tool/profibus

    TMG has:

A Linux based solution for AM1810

A SYSBIOS based solution for AM335x

You need to check with TMG to see if they have a running Linux based solution for AM335x.

I am very sorry for not being able to help.

I thought TI would be so professional that they wouldn't advertise such features which they can't deliver.

"All of TI’s Sitara processors for PROFIBUS support both high-level operating systems (OS) such as LinuxTM as well as applications with no operating system. In either architecture, the software structure is consistent.
Note that the Sitara devices for PROFIBUS are agnostic to the OS and the PROFIBUS DP stack, increasing flexibility in choosing an OS and PROFIBUS-DP protocol stack."

    JHi

  • I don't know why my earlier post doesn't show up here. We are also trying to get Profibus-stack for Linux. I have been in contact with the TI and the answer was:

I'm disappointed because TI can't deliver what the advertises:

    JHi
  • Profibus on AM335x seem to be in a sad state. I wonder what has happened at TMG.

    Best regards,
    Janne
  • I am sorry for the experience you are facing. I am passing this post to our team that is interfacing with the above 3P as well as to the Industrial team. Due the time of the year, I am expecting some return early next year.
  • Any news regarding Profibus?

    JHi

  • No not here at least. Maybe they are out of business...

  • Janne,
this is not true. TMG is actively supporting TI customer projects. On the business side they are difficult to get a hold on I agree. Customers with such problems should contact their local TI or distri team to get this resolved. The E2E forum is the wrong place for this.
    Regards,
  • Have you read what we have been writing here at all? I have already contacted TI-support but I still don't get any answers. And I think this is really a right place to discuss this, that others also see that TI can't provide the Profibus stack for AM335x (Linux). If we would have had this information before, we wouldn't have had chosen AM335x for our project. And what comes to TMG, I think it would be your best to try to make cooperation between customers and TMG to work.

    JHi

  • Frank, come on. Read the thread.

I have been promised help by TI in this thread but even they seem to be unable to get in contact with TMG. Instead of telling us to not discuss this here I think you should try to get some results. My first post was on 2015-10-27, yes over a quarter of a year ago. If you solve this problem I'm sure we will stop discussing it.

    /Janne

  • Sorry, I am aware that this is a critical issue for our customers but I am not in a position to solve this. You are free to discuss this here if you think it will get you any further. I just wanted to avoid that rumors get spread that are not true.

From my personal experience I can only tell that I am doing technical work with TMG people on real projects. So I don't think they  are NOT out of business. Why it is so difficult to get a hold of them as a new customer I don't know. The issue was also escalated (again) internally. So you may see more comments here from other people but I can't promise this.

    Regards,

(Edit 1: little 'not' makes a difference here...sorry)

  • Frank,

if you are really working closely with TMG, why can't you then help us to get a contact to them or better the solution from them?

    BR
    JHi
  • I assume the people I deal with are in the same situation as me. They work on technical projects assigned by management. They don't deal with business side, marketing or management decisions. It is the task of other people at TI to manage our 3P relation and I will not interfere with that as it is not part of my job. They are informed as said but it may take a bit of time to react. Yes, I know you are waiting for months now and I am definitely not happy with the situation.

    Regards,
  • We have finally got contact with the TMG, BUT they can't deliver the stack for linux. They do have implementation for linux for am1801. This implementation doesn't work with am335x because am1801 is using PRUSS UIO user space and am335x doesn't support this anymore. Am335x has only remoteproc + rpmsg. Does TI have remoteproc firmware for Profibus with rpmsg? Or does the firmware files for BIOS solution in am335x_sysbios_ind_sdk_01.01.01.01 work? And if there aren't firmware files already when can we expect to have them? TI does promise to deliver Profibus DP Slave FDL firmware (ICSS) , PRUSS driver and so on for any OS (PROFIBUS_FDL_API.pdf). I would also be happy to have some kind on example how to do all this. Or can you give me hints how can I get the stack to work with current remoteproc+rpmsg solution?
