TMS320C6671 PCIe - MSM SRAM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6671

Hi Everyone,

I have a question about TMS320C6671. We would like to use PCIe interface of TMS320C6671 without using any external DDR3 memories. Because of power budget at our project, we will use internal MSM SRAM (it is 4MB) of C6671 for all operations. My questions related with that are;

Is it possible to use PCIe interface just only using internal MSM SRAM?

Not connecting DDR3 to C6671 brings any limitations except performance?

Thanks for the replies.

Best Regards

Welcome to the TI E2E forum. I hope you will find many good answers here and in the TI.com documents and in the TI Wiki Pages (for processor issues). Be sure to search those for helpful information and to browse for the questions others may have asked on similar topics (e2e.ti.com). Please read all the links below my signature.

We will get back to you on the above query shortly. Thank you for your patience.

  • Hi,
Is it possible to use PCIe interface just only using internal MSM SRAM?

From my understanding, Yes. It is possible however I think we do not have direct demos/examples demonstrate the same.

I will check and get back to you on this. Thank you
  • Also you can refer PCIe FAQ wiki for additional information,

  • Hello,
AFAIK, presence of external memory is not required for PCIe peripheral to operate. TI's LLD guts can be placed in on-chip memories. As to exchange buffer, its location is flexible, and of course, it can be places in MSMCSRAM. And I would not say having no external memory is somehow critical for PCIe performance. From my experience, with chunk of data as large as 32KB one can reach top utilization numbers, which do not increase with larger buffers. However, a critical point is to use DMA to run PCIe. So the key question what would be a PCIe peer for your DSP, does it support DMA and so on.
  • Thank you for the additional input.

    Yes. It is possible.

No. For more information refer the PCIe user guide.

    Thanks,
