Use DM64x processor for DVR application?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DM385, TVP5150AM1

Hello.

I am interested to understand if the DM64x processor could be used for a car DVR application similar to the:

"DaVinci DM385 based Car DVR (Dashboard Camera) RDK"

Further to this; if I were to develop software using the DM385 RDK, would it be transferable to the DM64x series parts?

The reason I ask is that I need to use an automotive grade processor and keep cost to a minimum (DM64x is half the price of DM385)

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your post.

I believe, if you are using the TVP5150AM1 then yes, you would need one device for each video channel. Note that this would also mean there is a digital stream for each analog source.

To make it clarify on a better way, I would highly recommend you to contact your local TI field applications or support for complete details on the same.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Thanks & regards,

    Sivaraj K

  • Dear Peter,
Please refer to the following link.
    en.wikipedia.org/.../Texas_Instruments_DaVinci
DM385 has some co-processor which DM6437 does not have.
  • Hello Sivaraj,

Thanks for your response. Just to clarify, I only require one video channel.

The TVP5150AM1 would be required if the camera I am using produces an analogue output right?

Can you please clarify if code developed on the DM385 RDK board could be migrated across to the DM64x as long as the HDVPSS or HDVICP2 co-processors were not used?

Furthermore, are you able to provide contact details or a phone number for technical support based in Australia? I cannot find this information online.
  • The camera I intend to use has the following output: 12bit DVP, MIPI/LVDS CS1-2
