TPS659037x Linux driver

Hi there,

the TI AM5728 EVM board use the TPS6590374 for power management. I checked the BSP, but didn't find a Linux driver for the chip. The closest I found was TPS659038x handled inside the PALMAS driver.

Questions:

1. Are there any plans regarding driver support for the 6590374?

2. How is this handled in the kernel running on the EVM at the moment? Is 6590374 managed by the PALMAS driver labelling it as 659038x in the DTS?

3. Are there any features not supported due to that?

Hi Wolfram,

I will ask the Linux team to check this. It should be supported in the AM57X SDK as this is the PMIC that's used in the EVM board.

Hi Wolfram,

Yes, the palmas driver, which is compatible with ti,tps659038, is used for the AM572x pmic.
I am not aware of any drawbacks (nothing mentioned in kernel release notes), because of the use of palmas.c instead of a dedicated tps650938 driver.

thanks for the reply.

I've seen the support for the 659038x devices in the palmas driver. My question was related to the 659037x series. I haven't seen support for them (e.g. ti,659037). Do I "hide" the 650937 by configuring a 659038 in the DTS?

Regarding the drawbacks, I wonder whether there are differences between the 659038x and the 659037x which might need a different handling by the driver.

Hi Wolfram,

Have a look at the comparison between the two devices:
www.ti.com/.../compare.html

As you can see tps659038 has all the features of tps659037 plus some more. So you do not need different handling. the 659038 driver should work fine on the 9037 pmic.
The code is done this way, so it can be reused for all the devices from this SoC family (automotive dra7xx & catalog am57xx).
