Low-cost card reader/decoder

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3356, AM3352

I'm looking for a very low cost chip that can work as a universal card reader (SD Cards, USB flash drives, etc.) and it also does JPEG, MPEG, etc. decoding. The decompressed video is then output on the chip's output port. The DaVinci parts seem overkill for this, but is there some low-cost TI DSP or other chip that could handle this? Chip cost in high volume should be <$3.

This is for use in DLP pico-projectors.

  • Hi Dan,

I'm afraid that I can not find DaVinci or Sitara processor priced below $3 but an appropriate less expensive ARM Cortex-A8 based processor is AM3352 with cost $6 for 1 ku. If it is necessary additional DSP + ARM Cortex-A8 I suggest you AM3356 with cost $7.45 for 1 ku. For more details about prices contact to TI sales.
