Looking for DSP evaluation boards

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L138

Hi,

i have the board TMS320C6713 DSK. I am looking for a new generation of DSP evaluation boards. The boards will be used in a teaching lesson at College. The board should be compatible with CCS6(win7) and it has to run with MATLAB / Simulink(Embedded Coder).

Can you give me a suggestion witch boards will be work out.

Thanks & Regards

Rob

  • Rob,

Welcome to the TI E2E forum. I hope you will find many good answers here and in the TI.com documents and in the TI Wiki Pages. Be sure to search those for helpful information and to browse for the questions others may have asked.

I recommend you join the TI University Program. You can get a lot of material to help you jump-start your updated program. Go to TI.com, Support & training tab, and under the Technical resources heading is a link to TI university program.

The most common newer processor is the C6748 (C674x DSP core) or its superset OMAP-L138 (ARM9 + C674x DSP). There is a low cost development kit (LCDK) that works well for a variety of evaluation environments. The C6748 will be quite a bit more powerful than the C6713, and will be code compatible with the C6713 other than specifics for driving the peripherals and some memory addresses.

We have newer processors that are double the performance of the C6748, and more. But the C6748 is very rich in peripherals and is very rich in teaching resources and online workshop material.

Good luck, and keep us posted on how your class goes.

    Regards,

  • Hi Randy,

    Thanks for your fast reply.

I checked the LCDK but I have strong concerns if it will work out with Simulink(Embedded Coder) and CCS6.

MathWorks couldn't give me a definite answer.

  • Hi,

today a got a decent answer of mathworks.

They don't recommend the LCDK that you mentioned for the use with Simulink(Embedded Coder).

    Now I'm like totally confused...

If the LCDK dosn't work with Simulink(Embedded Coder) is there any other "working" board for my case?

    Thanks & Regards
    Rob
  • Rob,

If a requirement is to operate with Matlab's Simulink, then it would seem appropriate to go to whoever at Matlab said 'no' to the LCDK to ask them to what TI device or EVM would they say 'yes'.

Have you contacted the TI University Program, yet? They may have material or advice.

    Regards,
    RandyP
