How do you connect CCS V3.3 to a TMS320C5515 eZdsp USB Stick?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C5515

I have a TMS320C5515 eZdsp USB Stick and would like to connect via CCS V3.3 (full Platinum version) but can't find a suitable SD factory board driver when I run the CCS Setup program.

I have searched for, but can not find, a SD CCS V3.3 driver for the eZdsp USB Stick.

If a driver exists does anyone have a link to it?

If not how do I connect CCS V3.3 to a TMS320C5515 eZdsp USB Stick?

Regards, Andrew

  • The C5515 eZdsp comes with Code Composer Studio v4.x release.  That is the version that is expected to be used with this new DSP.  The embedded emulation on the eZdsp is the new XDS100 version.  Only CCSv4 will have XDS100 drivers for C5500 DSPs.

To the best of my knowledge there are no plans to release drivers for CCS3.3 on this platform.  You can verify this with Spectrum Digital (www.spectrumdigital.com) which is the company who developed the C5515 eZdsp for TI.

  • Thanks for the reply Tommy

I assumed CCS V3.3 was supported because there is CCS V3.3 test code for the C5515 eZdsp available here:

    http://support.spectrumdigital.com/boards/usbstk5515/reva/

I'll ask Spectrum Digital the same question,

  • Hi Tommy

Spectrum Digital verified that the test code and BSL mentioned above is for the C5515 eZdsp USB Stick.

They also suggest that the XDS100 and driver are TI products.

So is there any TI planned support for CCS V3.3, XDS100 and the C5515 eZdsp USB Stick?

    Regards, Andrew

  • Andrew,

I verified with the C5000 DSP team that there are no plans for CCS3.3 XDS100 drivers being developed for the C5000 DSPs.

The C5000 team is promoting CCSv4 for the new generation of C5500 DSPs.  The eZdsp stick comes bundled with a full licensed version of CCSv4.  If you purchase an XDS100 emulator, you can use that version CCSv4 for developing on your own custom hardware.  There are no additional costs for CCSv4 when migrating from the TI development platform to your own hardware as had been the case in the past with CCS3.3.

    Regards.

  • I'll agree with Andrew on this one - I am moving to v4 at some point, but not yet.  it would be nice if there existed some support for this until 3.3 is fully phased out by Ti.   I was also confused because, as mentioned before, there is 3.3 pjt support from spectrum digital.    Makes one think that someone has a 3.3 .ccs file to share?

    Matt

  • Not sure about the details of the CCS3.3 projects that are available for the C5515 eZdsp, but the configuration file is not to be found.  I think the release of the CCS3.3 projects was a mistake because the C5000 team is trying to move all development to CCSv4.  I recommend if you want to use the eZdsp sticks use this opportunity to start using CCSv4.

    Regards.
