Addition of an extra audio port (Line in and Line Out) for a L138/C6748 Development Kit(LCDK)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6748, TLV320AIC3106

Hi,

We have started working with an L138/C6748 Development Kit(LCDK) implementing our audio application. The Evaluation board is quite complete, however, in order to completely meet our hardware application we would require a second audio  physical port.

The evaluation board has the hardware setup for only one audio port (one line in and one line out), however, the codec implemented in the EVB  is the TVL320AIC3106, this codec has a number of audio ports.

Our question is the next:

Using this evaluation board, is it possible to attach a second audio port connector through the Evaluation board expansion pins ?  If yes, could you recommend the required hardware parts to achieve this second audio port integration?

Many Thanks In Advance.

  • Fausto,

You can progress a long way with the Low Cost Development Kit. It was designed to get you started and to provide example interfaces to some of the useful peripherals on the device.

If you are developing a specific product, you will likely design a custom board that will have all of the peripherals that you need.

If you want to look at the other boards that are available for the C6748, you can go to the TMS320C6748 Product Folder page, to the Tools and Software tab, and look at the TI Design Network boards that are available, in case one of those has the exact fit for your product. Or you can search the web for an even broader set of boards developed for the C6748.

The expansion connectors on the LCDK offer a fixed set of lines that can be used for add-on boards that you create. You will need to consider the exact lines that go to the different expansion connectors and your additional audio ports that you may want to use. The schematics and the TLV320AIC3106 [typo corrected] datasheet will help you determine what access you have to any unused ports.

The most likely path that I can see from a quick glance is to add a new board that connects to an expansion connector and use a SPI port to interface to an additional audio ADC/DAC device. But you may find better solutions when you look at these and compare to your requirements.
