DM642 video port Mbps? and poor video qualtiy

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TVP7002

Champs

my customer has the below question:

We are using DM642 for a video capture project, and using tvp7002 connecting to the video port of DM642 with the video 1600x1200 @60fps. Now we are suffering some poor video quality problem. May I ask you two quick questions?

1. Why the DM642 video port has a capture rate of 80MHz? What is maximum throughput? Say, how much Mbps?

2. Using tvp7002 and DM642 for 1600x1200 video capture, if we don't care about the frame rate, could we expect a high quality video input if the source has no problem?

Mohsen

  • Mohsen,

I'm in the process of trying to pull in some video port experts to answer your question.

    Regards,

    Brad

  • Mohsen,

The max throughput we can achieve with 80Mhz capture in RAW mode is 80Mhz x 2 bytes (16-bit width data bus for VP) = 160MBytes/sec.

Also, DM642 shares the same video port with DM648.  Please take a look at the DM648 video port throughput data found in this app note:

See Section 4.3.5 and onwards to learn what has been tested on DM648 EVM.
