AM335X RGMII Communication

HI ,

Is there any option to make RGMII Signals of AM335X communicated without using a PHY . We have product where the Am335X Processor sits in the main board and we have an addon card for Ethernet interface . The PHY chip is in the Addon card . My question is whether we can make the Processor board communicate without the addon card . (ie without PHY chip for Ethernet)

Hi,

This would require significant software effort if you are using Linux. Can you explain the reason for this and what software you intend to use?

HI Biser ,
Thanks for your reply . We are trying to measure the emissions coming out from our boards . We wanted to know how much the Mother board would emit without plugging the addon card . Since the PHY is situated in the addon card , we wanted to know whether the MAC signals be active and there would be any communication on these lines . Without communication in these line the controller will not be fully functional . That's why this question is being asked

Under Linux the system will try to initialize the PHY first over the MDIO interface. If a PHY is not detected the interface will not be started.

Thanks Biser , so without PHY its not much possible to make the processor MAC communicate right .
