Difference between linux and rt linux

Hi,

Can any one help on what is the difference between linux and rt linux. For HMI applications can we use RT Linux. I have gone through all pages of wiki regarding rt linux. I didn't understand clearly. I created the sd card using processor sdk rt linux. The demos are similar to the processor SDK linux. where we can use rt linux????

You can use RT linux on your board where you use the real time based applications. (time critical etc.,

But HMI based applications, I think, RTlinux is not required.

The rt linux provides predictable latency, if you run rt linux in your board the overall system performance will actually be reduced, but in some cases like in audio-related context or digital signal processing it is preferred in order to gain predictable latencies.
