OMAPL137 Linux Software Development Tools

The OMAP-L137 Linux support package is currently based on MontaVista.  I believe there is an evaluation copy of MontaVista's IDE provided with the EVM.

Regarding a comparison between MontaVista vs Code Sourcery, I would suggest taking a look at their documentation and sites.  I'm not trying to dance around that topic, but I am not in a position to provide comparisons.

Thanks for your reply.  I can see where my original post might be touching on a delicate topic so instead of comparing the two options if you can just help me get started with one or the other as I'm new to the ARM/Linux development tools and therefore don't understand the development environment options.  From the wiki I've found instructions for installing tools in two different places:

I see where under the "Adding MV tools to Environment" topic that a path is included for the Monta Vista  tools but I don't know how to launch the IDE application.  Which application/file do I launch to open the Monta Vista IDE?

I can certainly understand the confusion.  There are 2 main processors in the OMAP-L13x line, OMAP-L137 and OMAP-L138.  When the OMAP-L137 product was introduced (first), a MontaVista based Linux support package was implemented, therefore all the references are associated with that toolchain.  When the OMAP-L138 product was introduced, a open source Linux support package was implemented which targeted the Code Sourcery toolchain.

Both are not needed.  Only MontaVista for OMAP-L137 and Code Sourcery for OMAP-L138.

This would point you to the latest (as of this response) software that is available on L13x platform more specifically in you case the LSP (Linux support Package).  As Brandon mentioned the original support for L137 was through MV Linux Kernel.  Currently we have both L137 and L138 being supported through Open source community kernel and the related toolchain.

So the right start for you is to refer to the above link and refer to the Getting Started Guide on how to build and run the different components on L137/138 platforms.  Pl. let us know your feedback of your experience so that we can make it better for our customers like you.

I now see where I came into the Wiki from different links and mixed the L13x instructions with the L137 Getting Started Guide.   I'm now working exclusively with the instructions from here:  http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php?title=Getting_Started_Guide_for_OMAP-L137

So I will work with the MontaVista tools for getting a basic environment up and working but I see on this page: http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_registered_sw/sdo_sb/S1SDKLNX/SDK_EA2OMAPL137LNX/index_FDS.html

where in order to use the GNU debugger it appears the path of least resistance might next be Code Sourcery.  Is this correct?

So for the L137 I should be using the following page, correct? :

To further clarify pl. use the SDK package as your start up package.  You would need to use the Code Sourcery toolchain as described in the GSG.  Looking forward to hear on your experience and feedback.

We have the EVMOMAPL137 board and have followed the Getting Started guide, etc. to set up a Linux toolchain and distribution. However, this gives us Linux 2.6.18 kernel, which is way out of date and is missing some of the new USB device features we require.

Is this the recommended open source kernel for the OMAPL137? If so, what are the toolchain requirements? If not, where can we find the recommended open source and up-to-date version?
