May it cause problem?

Hi,

The following picture shows the input power for DSP. The bottom is for 1.2V, center for 3.3V. I believe the noise is induced from BLDC motor which the DSP controls and it looks quite big but very short time less than 400ns.

Generally the system works fine however, sometimes(very rare) the system is halted or reset. So, my question is that the problem is caused by the unstable power or another thing? Some say it is OK because of very short time and others not.

Thanks in advence!!

  • Hi,

We are working on your request and will get back to you shortly.

  • Hyunkweon,

This noise for less than 400ns might have a potential to disturb the device functionality. So it is recommended to minimize this noise using proper filter components.

  • H.K.,

    Which processor are you using?

    What is the top trace?

What are the vertical scales for the three signals.

To expand on what Senthil has said, if any of the supply voltages go outside the specification stated in the Datasheet for your device, for any duration of time, we cannot guarantee proper behavior of the device.

Unless the vertical scale is very small per division, this picture shows improper power supply behavior and you will expect to have problems some of the time or all of the time.

400ns is a long time for many of our DSPs.

  • RandyP,

Answering your question, the processor is 6713 and the top trace is for the input voltage(5.5V) of regulators supply 1.2V, 3.3V respectively. All the vertical scale is 2.0V/div. So, the 3.3V fluctuates between 1.1~6.0V and 1.2V between 0.7~1.8V which is outside the specification.

    Thanks a lot!!

  • H.K. Jung,

When you say the voltage fluctuates out of the specification, it would definitely create issues in the system. So please try to minimize it within the limits.
