About the IPU0 inside the AM572x

Hi TI experts,

Based on PSDK2.0.1 Linux.

There is not much software resources except the IPUMM or ipc_ipu for RPMsg ping-pong messagebox in GLSDK.

Is there any more reference code like the DSP or PRU if I would like to use the IPU0?

Are the IPU0_C0 and IPU0_C1 able to be configured to deal the assigned different tasks and different I/Os simutaneously?(Can OpenMP do that?)

Any information for this kind of application?

Please advise.

Thank you.

  • Hi,

I will ask the software team to comment.
  • We plan to support TI RTOS based software on the IPUSS so a lot of the bare-metal and TI RTOS software on the IPUs is part of the Processor SDK RTOS package. Currently the only support limited drivers on the M4`s but will be adding more soon in the SDK.

Currently the SDK contains ICSS_EMAC driver, GPIO, SPI, I2C and UART drivers for the M4 and will be adding more in the upcoming release. you can look at the Processor SDK RTOS documentation for more details.

Can you please specify, which drivers are you looking for to implement the IPU firmware.

    Regards,
    Rahul.

  • Hi, sir.

    Thanks for reply.

I see GPIO and SPI interfaces connected to M4 in my customers block diagram.

The link you prefered in PSDK RTOS I thought it is the reference codes for A15 in AM57x since nothing mentioned about the IPUx or M4 core.

Based on PSDK LINUX, we have to explain to customers if there would be examples to use this IPU which is not assigned jobs yet.

The concept is like I can design RT subsystems contorlled by co-processsors of M4 and PRUs based on AM57x with Linux.

Besides, is there an example if I wish to assign the two cores of IPU doing different jobs?

    Regards.

  • Yes, the reference to M4 support is not highlighted in the documentation yet as the driver support is limited. We plan to update this when we make the next release.

We are currently working on an example that will demonstrate use of co-processors M4 and PRUs based on AM572x with Linux which should be available in 2Q16. This demo will demonstrate the use of icss_emac firmware using M4 driver that will be deployed on the M4 using IPC from A15 running Linux.

I would recommend you to get in touch with your local TI contact if you wish to play with an early version of this demonstration when it is available.

    Regards,

    Rahul

  • Hi sir,
    I'll discuss with them.
    Thank you.
