Board data configuration/gel file for C5505 & C5515 ??

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320VC5505

Hi,

Sorry if this is a rhetorical question, however I am currently evaluating a SEED XDS560 PLUS emulator and also an XDS510USB with a custom board using a TMS320VC5505, that we have developed on the XDS100.

However when configuring using CCS Setup 3.3 I am having trouble locating the correct GEL file for the c5505 that configures CCS correctly for the above emulators ?!? Is there one GEL file for each of the above emulators that covers several DSPs or one specific for the C5505 & C5515 ??

At first glance it appears that for the C55XX family only the C5502 / C5509 / C5510 / C5561 are actually supported by the CCS Setup 3.3. Would these be supplied by the emulator manufacturers or are they available elsewhere ?? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

M MARIN

  • GEL files are typically supplied with EVM or DSK boards.  I believe Spectrum Digital has both VC5505 and C5515 EVM support pages that have GEL file as part of delivery package.

Did you have a GEL file for your XDS100 development?  It should work with any emulator.  The GEL files are independent of the emulator.  They are designed for a particular processor and target board.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply. Effectively the previous development was handled by another person that was not fully aware of a GEL file existing as such, however this was with the XDS100 and CCS4 etc. I will double check to see how I can continue with the existing custom target board and existing code that we are using to evaluate several emulators with. Unfortunately the set-up from one development configuration - XDS100 with CCS4 to 510/560 with CCS3/CCS4 etc. - is not immediately obvious for the 5505 and 5515 devices etc. hence my query ... Otherwise, would these be available elsewere for download so as to continue without too much hassle ??

    Regards,

  • I believe that CCSv3.3 support for the VC5505 EVM from Spectrum Digital is contained in the latest Service Release of CCS.  You can get that through update advisor.  You also need Code Gen Tools 4.3.6 and compatible DSP/BIOS package.  The differences in setup between VC5505 and C5515 is changing the GEL file definition.  Both devices would be setup by selecting the C5505 EVM-USB (at least that's what it's called in my installation).  Then if you want to debug on C5515 select the C5515 GEL file.  The GEL files for the EVMs are available from the Spectrum Digital support pages (support.spectrumdigital.com).
