Hi,

I have couple of questions on Beaglebone black.

1. Would the board still work if we removed the eMMC and used SD solely?

2. Do we have to make any modifications to get the board to operate from the SD solely.

Hi,

1. Yes, the board should work. However, every time you boot the board, you should hold S2 button pressed, so that BBB can boot from the sd card.

2. You shouldn't need any modifications to get the board to work from the sd card.

A little correction on the second question: You will need to short S2 if you don't want to hold it pressed each time you boot from SD card.

In the custom design if we use the BBB layout, is it ok if we dont populate eMMC as we will not be using it?

Yes, it should be ok. The board should work fine.

However, note that this way you will not have any backup options for booting the board, only the sd card.
