TMS320C5517 CLKIN

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C5517

Can we use CLKIN=19.44MHz for TMS320C5517 ?.

The application note, SPRABL8 mention that CLKIN suppot 0-30MHz range, but 11.2896,12,12.288,16.8, and 19.2MHz is only shown on the C5517 datasheet.

Which is correct ?

  • Hi

I would recommend using the frequencies listed in the datasheet. The same application note that you referred to , also has a section on bootoader that highlights the same frequencies you mention , as in the datasheet.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Mukul,
Do you have any concern when 19.44MHz CLK is used in the application ?
Also, would you tell me the reason why these 11.2896,12,12.288,16.8, and 19.2MHz frequencies were selected for this device ?

19.44 clk frequecy will be used as common CLK in our sysytem. so we hope to use this frequency if possible.
Your advices would be highly apprecited.
  • What boot mode are you planning to use?
  • Takashi-san,

The C5517 can support external clock frequency between 6.8-26Mhz, but we only tested those three commonly used frequencies. Given the fact that the 19.44Mhz is very close to 19.2Mhz. You should be OK to use the 19.44Mhz to replace the 19.2Mhz.

As Mukul mentioned in his post, it may be sensitive to certain boot device such as I2C or UART, because the peripheral clock frequency is derived from the external clock frequency. If the boot peripheral is very sensitive to its module clock frequency, then there may be some issues.

    Best regards,

    Ming
