From TRM, VIP input support:
– YUV422 8-bit embedded sync mode (exclude BT. 1120)
– YUV422 8-bit discrete sync mode

(1) It means that YUV422 8-bit BT.1120 embedded sync mode is not support. So FPGA is required to convert 8-bit BT.1120 to 8-bit BT.656 in embedded sync mode. Refer to below link:

(2) If GV7704 video output is YUV422 8-bit BT.1120 embedded signal with discrete sync(HSYNC,VSYNC,DE), it is possible to use YUV422 8-bit discrete sync mode in VIP port.

Thank for you reply.
Could you help me check the 8-bit BT656 embedded sync from GV7704(as mention before) could be captured by dm8168 VIP?
I try to capture 4 HDSDI camera via GV7704 HDSDI Receiver but VIP always show overflow message:
[m3vpss ] 30390815: CAPTURE: Overflow detected on VIP1, Total Resets = 1
[m3vpss ] 30390815: CAPTURE: Overflow detected on VIP1, Total Resets = 2...

I have set all VIP port(VIP0 PORTA, VIP0 PORTB, VIP1 PORTA, VIP1 PORTB) to 8-bit non-mux embedded sync mode but still not work...

Hi Steven,

It means VIP is not receiving stable signal on any of the ports. Could you please check lines connected to VIP?

No, I still wait our custom board and will take a test.
But it seems GV7704 could output four channels 8-bit BT656 embedded sync and DM8168 VIP port could support it.
I am not sure about it. Do you have any concern? What is FPGA doing? as video format converter?

VIP can capture 4 channel of BT656 data, so you need to make sure that GV7704 outputs BT656 correctly.

I have made  a "jump wire" from GV7704 EVK to our dm8168 custom board(jump wire GV7704 EVK 8 bit output data pin and data clock pin connect with DM8168 VIP port). Unfortunately signal is unstable because jump wire...It seems causing the overflow message in VIP port.

So I am wait our new custom board(DM8168 VIP port connected with GV7704) for testing...Could you help me check GV7704 spec again?

It looks like your decoder is outputting 10bit data. but VIP supports only 8bit or 16bit interface. You will need to leave out LSB two bits to connect to VIP port. Hopefully SAV/EAV codes will still be valid after connecting only upper 8bits to VIP.

Yes. Like this way, We have tried other HDMI/VGA receivers that could output 20-bit BT.1120 embedded sync connected to 16-bit dm8168 VIP successfully. SAV/EAV codes seems valid after the two less significant bits of each 10bits word to be ignored.
Now, I will check that 10-bit BT.656 mode in GV7704. Hope it is the same...
