Does MDIO communicate with PHY while "ifconfig eth0 down"?

With Linux system of AM335x,

while "ifconfig eth0/1 down" status, does MDIO of cpsw (Ethernet) communicate with PHY, or is there no control over MDIO with PHY?

I will ask the Ethernet experts, but you can easily check this with an oscilloscope.

There are two parts used together, the Kernel MDIO uses the TI MDIO driver for accessing the SOC MDIO interface. Without adding some instrumentation code to either driver it will be hard to tell if traffic stops. Updates in link status should be ignored since the interfaces are down. The scope approach presented by Biser would be a quick check. Is there a concern if the MDIO traffic is still happening if both interfaces are down?

No concern about MDIO traffic itself, want to know if PHY resetting during eth down will have some influence.
