1Mhz Sampling Rate DSP platform.

Hi,

I am working on a prototype of an Ultrasonic device, using the ADAU1701 evaluation board.

Due to the updated requirements, I am currently interested to test several Phased Array algorithms.

As a result, delays in resolution of ~1[microsec] should be implemented.

The sampling rate of the ADAU1701 platform is 1/192000=0.0000052[sec]=5.2[microsec].

Therefore, currently searching for an TI Evaluation Board with the desired sampling rate.

In addition, at least 4 output analog channels are needed.

Will be glad to have an advice - which platform may answer the sampling rate requirements.

Thanks in Advance.

  • Sen,

It is not clear to me what you are looking for. Are you asking for a TI DSP EVM with 4x 1MHz ADCs (inputs) and 4x 1MHz DACs (outputs) on the board?

How much processing power do you then need to do your work on the ultrasonic signals?

I am not sure that my questions are correct. I do not understand "delays in resolution of ~1us". But you do not say what the desired resolution is for either the ADCs or DACs.

  • Hi Randy,

Thank you for the fast reply.
The ADC and the DAC rates of the DSP platform used(ADAU1701), do not limit the application.
The requirement can be restated more clearly in the following way:
If two signals are to be forwarded from the input(ADC) to the output(DAC), while signal A is forwarded without any modifications and signal B is being delayed by 1[microsec] - what TI platform can provide such functionality/delay resolution?

    Thanks.
    Sen.
  • Sen,

Now you only need two inputs and two outputs?

If the 5us sample rate of the current board does not limit the design, then this explanation is still not clear. With a 5us sample rate the smallest delay possible is 5us or 1 successive sample period.

Any of our DSPs can provide a 1us delay period without regard to the ADC/DAC peripherals. So your selection criteria is fully dependent on the peripheral selection, and that requirement is not clear to me.

You can look at the LCDK6748, DSK6416, DSK6455, and the BeagleBone Black (ARM, not DSP) as examples, then determine if they will meet your needs. You might need to find add-on boards or daughtercards or capes to add ADC/DAC channels for some of the boards.

  • Thank you Randy.

    Will check the specifications of:

    1. LCDK6748

    2. DSK6416

    3. DSK6455

    Sen.

  • Sen,

You can also check the web for adapter boards for any of these. There may be board manufacturers who make daughtercards for these with additional ADCs and DACs.
