How can I choose a GbE PHY for the TMS320C6455 ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6455, DP83865

Hi All:

I am glad to come here to find so many warm-hearted people.

Now I am developing the gigabit ethernet function of TMS320C6455 .In the C6455 EVM(mezz board),there is a BCM5464 gigabit ethernet transciever used.

Because the chip's datasheet is so hard to find,I hope I can take it with other PHYs,such as DP83865(National Semiconductor),88e1111(Marvel),ET1011C(LSI).

Though the PHYs above all are gigabit PHY,I found the MDIO registers of them are not all the same with each other. Some tips say that the PHYs define some basic registers

according to 802.3,but other registers are defined by the producers themself, so there may be some differences.

And my QUESTION is:

How can the NDK surpport the PHYs other than BCM5464?

Must I change the hardware abstract level drivers of the EVM if I use other PHYs?

Thank you very much!

  • Hello, Zhi-Heng

I'd post your in blog a message days ago, I know you're professional at DSP+FPGA filed. but it seemed you didn't logging there so long.

We use BCM5461S, I'm sure it work, but you couldn't download datasheet from website. You can use another Intel chip, might be 9111, forgorted.

Contact me if you need BCM5461S datasheet: gecwcm@126.comI and I need your help as well.

    Regards,

    Amelio.
