AM335x Reset happening in U-boot only once

Hi,

                  Board is rebooting when booted from SD card and eMMC if i stooped at uboot. We disabled the internal 32k oscillator at uboot.  we are using ds1374 rtc/watchdog for RTC/Watchdog. When RTC reset pin connected to sys_reset of processor, at u-boot board is rebooting within 30 seconds, that is also only first time. Next time even if i stopped for 5 min board is not rebooting. I am not getting the logic behind that. Can you please suggest ..

  • Hi,

    How is this external watchdog connected to the processor? Are you sure that the internal WD is disabled?
  • I am not sure whether i have disabled the Internal watchdog properly or not, can you please suggest me if i want to disable then where i have to disable. we have connected the external watchdog , do we need to enable it in uboot also...? please suggest me..

  • To disable watchdog in kernel, you need to comment the bellow lines in arch/arm/configs/tisdk_am335x-evm_defconfig:

    CONFIG_WATCHDOG=y
    CONFIG_WATCHDOG_CORE=y
    CONFIG_OMAP_WATCHDOG=m
    CONFIG_TWL4030_WATCHDOG=m

    However if you're not careful, you may experience problems with your system later...

    In u-boot you can use wdt_disable(), see arch/arm/cpu/armv7/am33xx/board.c

    However, you should know that there is a watchdog timer dedicated specifically to the MPU and you have no user control over it.

    Could you post a log from your system reset, also a dmesg output?

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
