Does AM3517 support UART4?

Hello.
Our customer is designing AM3517 board using UART4.

This time, I'd like to ask about whether UART4 is supported by AM3517.
Although old TRM(SPRUgr0) chapter14 describes about UART4,
Lately, AM35x TRM was updated and the description in chapter14 disappeared(SPRUgr0a).

Please let me know...
a) Does AM3517 support UART4?
(There is description about UART4 in AM3517 datasheet)

b) Are there any functional changes in UART4?

Yes, UART4 does exist in AM3517. The chapter 14 will be updated in next release.

b) Are there any functional changes in UART4?

No, It is the same as described in chapter 14 in previous TRM.

Hi BL.HSR-WZ,

I found in AM3517 datasheet(old TRM SPRUgr0 ) page 1770 (chapter14 describes about UART4), all UART4 registers address are the same, it is 0x4809 e000, there should be something wrong here.

And when I try to config UART4 in file arch/arm/mach-omap2/serial.c, the kernel will crash when boot up.

Can you successfully to use UART4 now?

Hello Jennifer,

The current release of the AM3517 TRM has UART4 included.

One thing to check is that your are setting the UART4 enable bit in the PRCM. That is bit 23 of PRCM.CM_FCLKEN1_CORE.

I got the new 3517 TRM, seems UART4 is not changed yet.

I mean all UART4 registers address are the same, it is 0x4809 e000, there should be something wrong here.

Hello Jennifer,

I see what you are talking about now. In the actual register description section (14.6.2) where it shows the Physical address of UART1, 2, 3, and 4 it always shows UART4 as it's base address (0x4809 E000) instead of the true physical address. I will work to get this fixed in the next release of the TRM.

The Address offset is the same for all UARTs so you can just take and add the offset of the registers to the base address. For example: The MCR_REG (section 14.6.2.10) has an address offset of 0x010.
UART1 = 0x4806 A010
UART2 = 0x4806 C010
UART3 = 0x4902 0010
UART4 = 0x4806 E000 + 0x010 = 0x4806 E010

Hi,

Does your customer activate UART4 successfully? If yes, could you share some? I am struggling to activate UART4. Whenever I tried to read registers, there is some exception.

Hi,

I believe I setup correctly on ick and pinmux, but I don't know how to enable wakeup?

I couldn't find wakeup in TRM. OMAP3630 uses bit 18, but AM3517 TRM said it is reserved.

Please let me know how to wakeup the device.

There are multiple pins that can be used for UART4, e.g. GPIO_64, GPIO_98 and GPIO_133 can be used as UART4_TX, could you please point out where in the serial driver is selecting which pin to use? I don't find it in the serial driver, so I am setting it in u-boot MUX settings. Is it the right place to do it? Could the u-boot mux settings be overwritten in serial driver or other drivers? If I selected the mode 2 or mode 1 for UART_TX, do I still need to set the GPIO_OE to make sure the input/output matches the pin's mode? or if it is not GPIO, I don't need to worry about Input/Output settings?

We have the same issue trying to bring up UART4 on AM3505 using PSP 4.02.00.07 linux 2.6.37.

Where can I locate this attachment?
