DM355, Linux 4.5.1 framebuffer and digital LCD

I am working on a refresh for a DM355 based product that used the MontaVista 2.6.10 kernel.  As part of that refresh we have moved to kernel version 4.5.1 (the latest mainline when we started) and have got all of the peripherals working except for the LCD.

The new application is Qt based and so we need provision within the kernel and the root file system for a framebuffer device (for Qt to write into) the VPBE configured to drive the display (852x600 18bit parallel interface).

I have tried multiple configurations of the VPBE and have also ported the davincifb driver into this kernel but can't get anything out of the display.

Has anyone got any pointers to help get this working?
