This is the Linux Platform Support (PSP) component of the SDK. The entire SDK can be obtained from here: http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/omap_l138/1_00/latest/index_FDS.html

Note that this SDK currently includes a slightly older version of version of PSP, but there are no OMAP-L138 related bug-fixes/features that were added in 03.20.00.12 release.

As the wiki mentions, you can ignore it. u-boot-03.20.00.11.tar.gz is all you need for re-building.

I'm not too concerned about the DSP at this point:  I need to get the GPIOs and internal peripherals set up - I was planning to leave the DSP turned off until the OS is running.  File da850evm.c does not seem to be set up for the Logic PD L138 SOM.  For example, the PINMUX setup for SD0 (Secure Digital Controller 0) does not exist.   If this package is for the Logic PD SOM, is the SD0 setup done somewhere else, ie. in another bootloader source file or in the OS?  A good number of GPIOs in my design are not the same as on the Logic PD design, so I need find where they are set and change them.

This file is meant for Logic PD OMAP-L138 SOM.

MMC/SD is not supported as part of the 03.20.00.12 release. After the release, there was some development on this feature. The patches adding this feature are hosted here: http://arago-project.org/git/projects/?p=u-boot-omapl1.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/mmc

Typically for a new board you need to create a new board file. You can take da850evm.c file as the reference.

Are all patches for the Logic PD L138 SOM available in one place, or do I have to go through all the logs?

Another issue:  I noticed that the EMAC-PHY interface requires a way to turn off the MC clock (MDC).  I missed this in the hardware design.  Can I just change the MDC pin to a GPIO output in the appropriate PINMUX register and set it low, or is there some sort of protected mode - user mode issue?

Yes, all the patches are available as part of the patches tarballs shipped. And, as I mentioned earlier the source tarball is already patched.

I haven't used git before, but I installed it and tried the following, which failed:

$ git clone http://arago-project.org/git/projects/?p=u-boot-omapl1.git;a=summary

So then I clicked on "snapshot" at the top of the tree and downloaded the file.  Is this the correct file:  u-boot-omapl1-5f16b8551b125f16cd8d58f278cb25b94272fd9f.tar.gz?  da850evm.c is slightly different than before, but it still does not have the SD PINMUX register settings.

It's been over a week.  I realize that the July 4th long weekend was in between, but we are well past that now...

It's a bit confusing.  Which snapshot do I get?  There are 3 snapshots dated 2010-04-30.  Are there other patches for other feathers, as well, or just this one?  Can you provide a complete list of tar files for the bootloader, file system and Linux kernel (and any other required components) for the Logic PD L138 SOM?

Each of the three items dated 2010-04-30 you see on this page are patches which when applied to the U-Boot tree released with OMAP-L138 software development kit will add MMC/SD support to U-Boot. As I mentioned before, this development was done after the last OMAP-L138 software release and is not system tested.

You should pick the snapshot of the top of the patch series. I have included the direct link for your convenience.

Thanks - this one has the MMC set up for MMC0.  However, some of the pins are still not set up in da850evm.c.  Examples:

1.  USB over-current and enable GPIOs.

2.  RMII REF_CLK (50 MHz input from PHY):  (PINMUX[15], 8, 0).

3.  LCD.

Are these set up in some other file, or in the OS?

For NAND Flash, I expected WAIT0 and CS0 to be used (NAND is not on the Logic PD SOM, but I have included it in my design).  No WAIT signal is implemented.  Which CS (3 or 4) is used?

Is U-boot in DaVinci-PSP-SDK-03.20.00.14.tgz completely up-to-date?  I.e. does it branch from the one provide in the link on July 8, 2010?  I looked at the change logs, and they don't seem to match.

Does either version provide a means of setting the write-protect bits (BP2, BP1, BP0) in the SPI flash status register (Numonyx/Micron M25P64)?

U-Boot referred in the reply dated July 8, 2010 can be accessed from http://arago-project.org/git/projects/?p=u-boot-omapl1.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/mmc.

U-Boot in 03.20.00.14 release is present at http://arago-project.org/git/projects/?p=u-boot-omapl1.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/master.

As you can see, both are similar but U-Boot from 03.20.00.14 release has some bug fixes.

Does U-Boot in 03.20.00.14 support all the features in U-Boot dated July 8, 2010 (eg. MMC)?  Yes, they are very similar, but as I said, the comments in the change logs don't seem to match.

And again, does U-Boot in 03.20.00.14 provide a means to set the write-protect bits in SPI Flash?

Yes, feature-wise U-Boot in 03.20.00.14 release is similar to the one you have from the link dated July 8, 2010.

I personally have not tested locking SPI from U-Boot. If it is working earlier, then it should work even with 03.20.00.14 release.

I made changes to the July 8, 2010 bootloader to get it to run on my board.  Is the 03.20.00.14 an update to the July 8, 2010 version or from an earlier branch?  Just saying it's similar isn't going to help.

I don't see any U-Boot command(s) to specifically lock SPI Flash in the July 8, 2010 version.  "protect on all" doesn't do anything (checked with a scope) and there's nothing in the "sf" command set to set the lock bits.  I don't know if "sf write" will allow the status register to be written, or if this is for the data section only.

As I said earlier, U-Boot from July 8, 2010 is same as u-boot from 03.20.00.14 release, except that u-boot from 03.20.00.14 has the below 3 extra commits:

da850/omap-l138: Modify the bootargs and bootcmd to boot from MMC/SPI.
da850/omapl138: Correct "mmc rescan" implementation
da8xx/omap-l1: modifications for Logic PD Rev.3 AM18xx EVM

If you have a patch for the changes you have done for your board, you apply that patch on top of the u-boot from 03.20.00.14 release and the new U-Boot should work on your board.
