J6 VIP, Monochrome Capture Support, Vision SDK

I am working with a customer who needs to implement 12-bit luma-only capture on J6. 

It appears that the VIP hardware supports 12-bit raw capture.  V4L2 has some monochrome formats such as V4L2_MBUS_FMT_Y12_1X12 however these monochrome formats are not implemented in the Vision SDK capture driver.

Can someone recommend an example SW implementation for 12-bit monochrome capture.
