EtherCAT Slave stack code in CoE

Hi

I am trying to implement CoE over my AM335x board .
I get to know about SSC provided by beckhoff.
I am just curious to know what is the exact purpose of slave stack in implementing CoE ??

I know it resides in application layer , so what exactly it is doing for us in order to implement CoE ??

The best description of the EtherCAT stack and the services that are supported is in the documents that are available to ETG members.

It is important to note there are no fees for membership and that stack code is available free to members.
