AM335X MPU power supply

HI ,

Do we need ferrite beads at each supply line of MPU?

Regards,

Pranoti

  • Hi,

Ferrite beads are not specifically required. They are however recommended on the PLL and ADC power supplies. The rest depends on the particular use case.
  • Ferrite beads are normally used to isolate noise from one circuit to another circuit when they share a power rail. Why would you want to use ferrites on the MPU supply with having a dedicated supply?

I would not recommend ferrite beads on the VDD_MPU power pins. The ferrite beads may limit transient currents being sourced from bulk decoupling capacitors and may require you to place additional bulk capacitance on the processor side of the ferrite beads. This is normally difficult to do since the area near the processor is very congested.

  • Hi Biser,

Please let us know where exactly ferrite bead is required. I assume following three supply nets need ferrite beads as per Beagle bone schematic. Please let em know if more supply nest needs to be fed through ferrite beads.
    1.8V supply - Ferrite beads --VDDA_ADC
    GND - Ferrite beads --VSSA_ADC
    1.8V supply - Ferrite beads --VDDS_PLL_XXX and VDD_OSC
  • Yes, it would be good to have ferrite beads on these 3 power rails.
