AM5728 mSATA options

I am looking at mSATA options to use with the AM572x GPEVM. Gen-2 options are very few and very expensive. I realize that Gen-3 SATA drives are not guaranteed to work, but does anyone know of any models that do work?

Hi Chris,

Any module that complies with the Standards & Specifications described in Section 24.8.1.2 SATA Controller Features of AM5728 TRM should work with the AM572x GP EVM device.

You can see the Sata driver performance here:

The drive used for the benchmarks is: Seagate ST3500514NS 500G

Thanks Yordan.

Interesting that the benchmark drive used for mSATA performance was the SMS200S3/30G Kingston mSATA SSD drive (http://www.kingston.com/us/ssd/system-builder/sms200s3). That is a Gen-3 SATA (6 Gbps) SSD, which other posts warn against using with the AM5728 (https://e2e.ti.com/support/arm/sitara_arm/f/791/p/492604/1779120#1779120). This is exactly the type of answer I was looking for.

See the last comment (from Melissa) of the thread you refer to:

"AM572X Errata Advisory i859 only applies to AM572x SR1.0. This bug is fixed in AM572x SR1.1 and SR2.0"

Hi Yordan. The last post I see in the thread is Biser @ Feb 24, 2016 11:45 AM.

Can you confirm what AM572X silicon revision is used in AM572X-GPEVM Processor Module Rev A3? I looked through the schematic and BOM but I didn't see it.

Hi Yordan. I see the 2nd page now.

Can you confirm what AM572X silicon revision is used in AM572X-GPEVM Processor Module Rev A3?

I see this on the Linux console at boot: "[ 0.000000] CPU: ARMv7 Processor [412fc0f2] revision 2 (ARMv7), cr=30c5387d"

Does this mean silicon revision 2, and that the the SATA subsystem should be able to negotiate down to 3 Gbps with a Gen-3 SATA device?

The device part number provided in the BOM is XAM5728BABCXEA. Using the information provided in Section 9.1 of the AM572x data sheet, you will find the device is silicon revision 2.0.
