Why doesn't the McBSP on OMAPL138 does not support the SPI protocol.

Because  C6748's SPI cannot write 24bit  word ,while the  McBSP supports 24 and 32 bit word sizes. On the 24.2.10 of TRM,  SPI Operation Using the Clock Stop Mode it says: The McBSP on this device does not support the SPI protocol.

I want to know why it doesn't support, and if I can adjust some parameters of McBSP to communicate with other TI devices supporting SPI protocol .

Thanks!

  • Welcome to the TI E2E forum. I hope you will find many good answers here and in the TI.com documents and in the TI Wiki Pages (for processor issues). Be sure to search those for helpful information and to browse for the questions others may have asked on similar topics (e2e.ti.com).

We will get back to you on the above query shortly. Thank you for your patience.

Note: We strongly recommend you to create new e2e thread for your queries instead of following up on an old/closed e2e thread, new threads gets more attention than old threads and can provide link of old threads or information on the new post for clarity and faster response.

  • Hi

There used to be limited supported for SPI mode in McBSP on older devices, but it is my understanding that there were some corner conditions and caveats that made the solution not viable across all situations. Therefore eventually we descoped SPI mode from McBSP. I don't have additional details on the why portion , but i can confirm that for this device family we have not tested/verified and therefore do not support the SPI mode.

    Hope this helps.
