[AM335x]Toggle NAND can be attached to AM335x?

Dear Champs,

As I know, most of latest Samsung NAND flash memories are supporting Toggle mode. Can these toggle memories can be attached to AM335x and used for booting?

Thanks and Best Regards,

SI.

  • SI,

We are checking internally if we have any history of testing with these parts. These devices seem to be backward compatible with Legacy NAND devices and have the same signalling but do you know if they also are ONFI compatible?

  • Hi Rahul,

Sorry. I have no idea on compatibility between ONFI and Toggle.

    Thanks and Best Regards,

  • SI,

Do you have the datasheet for these NANDs? Our understanding is that Toggle mode NAND devices can work in legacy NAND mode as well as Toggle Mode. The important thing from ROM bootloader perspective is that if the NAND geometry and ID can be read in correctly for the bootloader to configure the number of blocks and pages and their size along with the ECC requirement correctly.

Typically since ONFI nand provide this information in the first 5 bytes on the NAND and use a unique DEV ID and Manufacturer ID combination, the ROM can figure out these settings by reading in this NAND information.

If this is not a ONFI NAND then it is difficult for us to comment if it will work. The customer will need to build a board with this to determine if it works before placing order for production.

    Regards,
    Rahul
