Trouble Creating Target for BIOS

Expert 1005 points

Hello,

I am trying to create a target for SYS/BIOS as documented here: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/images/f/f6/Spruex3e.pdf section 5.2.2, but there is no Memory Map item under Tools > RTSC Tools

Why I don't have this item and how I can create such target?

Regards

  • Hello,

What version of XDCtools are you using? The screenshots shown in the BIOS6 user guide refer to the platform wizard shipped with XDCtools v 3.20. For earlier releases of XDCtools the platform wizard can be launched by navigating to File -> New -> Other -> RTSC Wizards -> RTSC Platform Wizard in the CCS4 IDE.  A demo of this version of the platform wizard is available at http://rtsc.eclipse.org/docs-tip/Demo_of_the_RTSC_Platform_Wizard_in_CCSv4

  • Hello,

     Thank you for your reply.

I have download and installed XDCtools Version 3.20.00.41. (not in CCS path but as a separate application)

My CCS uses XDCTools Version 3.16.02.32

How can I create a new platform for XDCtools Version 3.20 without using CCS and how can I upgrade CCS to uses the latest version of XDCTools?

    Best regards

  • Hi,

What version of CCS4 are you using?  XDCtools v3.20 and SYS/BIOS v6.30 leverages IDE features available only in CCS4.20 - which is in beta right now. If you use XDCtools v3.20 and SYS/BIOS v6.30 in CCS4.1.x or earlier then you will miss out on some of these features.

To upgrade to a different version of XDCtools (or any product shipping RTSC packages like SYS/BIOS and IPC) follow the steps given below:

    • Install product in a directory of your choice eg. C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments
    • Navigate to Windows -> Preferences -> CCS -> RTSC -> Products
    • Add the folder containing the product in the Tool discovery path section of the dialog box. Note that if  product is installed in the same top level folder as CCS4 e.g.C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments,  this folder should already be present in your  tool search path.
    • Press OK. If  a new folder has been added to the tool search path, there will be a dialog  prompting the user to restart the IDE. If the folder already exists in the tool search path, restart the IDE.
    • The product should now be registered in CCS4. To confirm navigate to Windows->Preferences->CCS->RTSC and check if the product shows up in the dialog. In case of XDCtools installation, the user can see the new version in the XDCtools version: combo box. Other products should show up in the Products and Repositories section of the dialog. Note that every time CCS4 is started, a search is done on the tool search path for new products. If new products are discovered , a dialog box will popup listing the new products. Press Finish in the dialog box. The IDE will prompt the user for a restart. On restart the new products should be registered.

  • Thanks for your reply.

Can I download CCS 4.2? I am working on a new application and I prefer to work with the latest version of your tools.

    Kind regards

  • Hello,

Let me give you more information about what I want to do and you may advise me what I should do.

I am looking to develop a frame work for multi core development and hence I am interested in RTSC, SYS/BIOS and IPC. I am not interested in CCS user interface and its debug facility etc.

Is there any big difference in new versions of these tools when it comes to developing applications for multi core platform (C6472)?

    Regards

  • Hello,

I would recommend staying with CCS4.1.2, XDCtools 3.16.05 ,SYS/BIOS 6.21.03, and IPC 1.20.00. You can migrate to XDCtools 3.2x,SYS/BIOS 6.3x and IPC 1.21x with the CCS4.20 GA release (expected in August/September 2010). XDCtools 3.20 has some nice enhancements but I would recommend its use with CCS4.20 only.

  • Thanks for your reply.

Please note that I am not using these tools with CCS and I am using them as command line tools. I use CCS for downloading my application into target platform. When I am using them outside of CCS, do you advise to upgrade to latest version?

If you suggest that I should use the versions that come with CCS, then I have:

    CCS 4.1.2.00027

    RTSC 3.16.02.32

    IPC: 1.00.05.60

    Bios: 6.21.00.13

    XDIAS: 6.25.01.08

It seems that I need upgrade in RTSC, IPC and BIOS.

Would you please help me to find how can I do this (Where can I download them and how to install them with CCS)?

By the way, the version number comes from the help content and maybe I have other versions installed but I don't know how I can check which versions of these tools are installed.

    Kind regards

    Hi,

    >Would you please help me to find how can I do this (Where can I download them and how to install them with CCS)?

Please goto http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/index.html and navigate to DSP/BIOS , Interprocessor Communication (IPC) and RTSC/XDCtools folder for the latest releases. Installation instructions are given in the earlier part of this post.

    >I don't know how I can check which versions of these tools are installed

Navigate to the the RTSC Preferences dialog by clicking on  Window -> Preferences -> CCS -> RTSC in the IDE. In the "Products and Repositories" tab you will see all the products that are installed in your system. Versions of XDCtools installed can be reviewed by clicking the "XDCtools version:" combo box in the dialog.

    Regards

    Amit
