Range of MAC IDs for AM3352

I am planning to use MAC ID of AM352 as a serial number for my product.

Each AM3352 Chip has some unique MAC ID pre programmed. And so I will be able to use them to uniquely identify each device.

But, the MAC IDs are of 8 bytes width and so, I am using all these to specify the serial number.

I can avoid using few bytes that are going to be same across all AM3352 chips. Can someone please comment on the above and if possible give the range of MAC IDs that are planned to be used for AM3352.

MAC IDs are 6 bytes long, not 8. Unfortunately it's not possible to predict the range of IDs for AM3352, as these are taken from a pool of IDs assigned to TI.

Thanks for correcting me. Is it possible to know range of IDs assigned to TI. I need to reduce the number of bytes, I use to distinguish my device.
Is it possible to go less than 6 bytes ?

TI manufactures millions of devices that have unique MAC addresses, therefore it's not possible to list all the pools assigned to TI here. There are a lot of online tools available that will give you this information. Also, new pools are assigned when the available ones are used up.

Just to re-iterate what Biser said as it's a fairly common question: MAC ID should not be used as an identifier in any product implementing AM335x (or any Sitara-class device). If you need a unique identifier, it's best to create your own and store it to EEPROM.

Can I know why shouldn't MAC ID be used for this purpose. I still don't understand the reason behind this.
