AM5728 capture-encode-decode-display latency

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5728

Is there any measured latency data for AM5728 just like what's provided in the link below?

processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Latency_Measurement_on_Capture_Encode_Decode_Display_Demo

Compared to DM816x, how much improvement of performance AM5728 can provide?

  • I will ask the video experts to comment.
  • There is no latency benchmark data available for AM5728 device.

Latency is function of  capture and display frame rate along with processing time spent in IVA and VPE. IVA is 1080p60 processing device and hence will take max 16 ms to process 1080p resolution frame. VPE can handle more then 60 fps (depending upon the configuration etc), but worst case you can assume 16 ms. On top of that, it will also depend upon what other things in the video pipeline being done in application like SGX, DSP/ARM processing etc, along with initial delay due to buffering the captured data.
