Matrix GUI load error on Processor SDK Linux

Hello,

I'm running the Processor SDK Linux on the Vayu Rev H platform.

Most of the times the Matrix GUI doesn't load on this board, the display gets stuck saying 'Please wait...' and never comes out of it, I've to power cycle the board to recover. I think 1 out of 10 times the GUI comes properly. Is there anyway to fix this?

Thanks

  • Can you let us know which version of Processor SDK Linux you are on? Please do a "cat /etc/version" on your target board and let us know the results.

    Regards,
    Anand
  • Hi Anand - the version is 20160726105627.

    I'm using this release  -

    Thanks,

    Kaushal

  • Kaushal,

This looks like a race condition. Can you try the following?

    /etc/init.d/weston stop
    /etc/init.d/weston start
    /etc/init.d/matrix-gui-2.0 start

In addition, please post the boot logs when the Matrix GUI does not start.

    Regards,
    Anand
  • Anand- - Please see the attached log where matrix failed to load. Display was blank with the message "Please wait..."

    Thanks,

    Kaushal

  • Kaushal,

    Thanks for the logs.

Have you been able to check the commands I mentioned in the last post?
    /etc/init.d/weston stop
    /etc/init.d/weston start
    /etc/init.d/matrix-gui-2.0 start

The order of services look correct. The SGX, Weston and Matrix are started in the right order.
[[0;32m OK [0m] Started Network Name Resolution.
    [ 12.123335] PVR_K: UM DDK-(3699939) and KM DDK-(3699939) match. [ OK ]
    [[0;32m OK [0m] Started rc.pvr.service.
    Starting weston.service...
    [[0;32m OK [0m] Started weston.service.
    Starting matrix-gui-2.0.service...
    [[0;32m OK [0m] Started matrix-gui-2.0.service.

  • Hi Anand,
Yes, I tried those commands and they work nicely - stop and start the gui. But I'm not sure how can they be useful - I mean it requires me to have access to console all the time. In our case, some non technical people will use these boards and if the GUI doesn't come up, it's not useful to them.

Anything else you can think of, why the GUI doesn't come up?

    Thanks,

    Kaushal

  • Hi Kaushal,

Thanks. This pretty much confirms that the issue is related to race condition in service startup. There is no problem with your board or SW installation or HW connections.

I understand your point about this being a problem for non-technical folks.

We will be addressing this fix as part of our upcoming 3.01 release in mid-Oct. Will that work for you?

    Regards,
    Anand
  • Hi Anand - Yes, that will work. I really appreciate all your help. Btw, I use the Linux Automotive SDK on Vayu ES 2.0 EVM. IThanks.
