SMP/BIOS mode clarification on AM57x IPU

Champs,

I see in the SDK that for the IPU SYSBIOS is configured to run in SMP mode, so utilizing both M4 cores with single RTOS instance. The questions I have:

1. Is it possible to run 2 separate SYSBIOS instances for each M4 core on the IPU?

2. If yes - is it supported in the toolchain?

3. again if yes - what would it take to build and run separate applications for two M4 cores? Is there an example available?

Michael,

1. Yes its possible to run 2 separate SYSBIOS instance for each M4.

2. Yes this is supported in the toolchain.

3. First, there is no public example available for this, but I will attach a simple program and try to explain some of the things
that will be required to do this:

a. You will need to create separate platforms that specify a memory map that does not overlap with one another.
b. You will need to create separate .cfg files for each core and specify the core id in the .cfg files.

I did not attach the platforms here but when we build this examples, core0 is built with a core0 platform and core1 is built with a core1 platform.8836.gatetest.zip

thanks a lot for the guidance. One follow up question: does the above hold true if M4s are being loaded by Linux using remoteproc framework?

It should be no different but I'm not familiar how remoteproc framework works.
