Customer is re-designing an existing product
They have strict power budget, being able to receive only 0,5W (total) from main board.
They are concerned in using AM335x mainly due to that. In fact they’ll have on board the following:
- SDRAM DDR3 (256-512 MB)
- eMMC (2-8 GB)
- Ethernet 10/100
- USB device
- UART (1 or 2)
- I2C accessing EEPROM (TBD)
Where they’ll not have:
- flash NOR o NAND
- display
- touch screen
- microSD
- USB host
- Other buses: CAN, SPI...
- A/D converter
MPU is always on, they cannot put this in Low Power.
As you can see in attached Excel files, setting Dhrystone with CPU at 300MHZ and DDR3 and deactivating unused peripherals they obtain 380mW, which should be not bad.
Looking at http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335x_Power_Consumption_Summary, differently, it seems that with the same setting expected Power Consumption is about 533,26mW, which is too much.
Am I missing something? Can you kindly help me and customer to correctly set parameters in PET?
Last but not least, can we also help customer providing some “real case” power consumption numbers for parts like DDR2/3, eMMC, Eth PHY?
