DSP Instruction Extensions - how use it?

Hi,

Reading the doc TMS320DM368 Digital Media System-on-Chip (DMSoC) (Rev. A), found here: http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/tms320dm368.html, I saw that the ARM926EJ-S (processor that comes with the DMSoC) has a called "DSP Instruction Extensions and Single Cycle MAC". I cant understand what this means, can the processor run DSP instructions? If the answer is yes, what instructions can I use? And how (remembering that theres no DSP in TMS320DM368, just this "DSP Instruction Extensions")?

Hi,

Yes, it means that the ARM926EJ-S processor on the DM368 can run the DSP instructions (data operation, multiply and accumulate (MAC), saturation, etc.). You can read more about it here . Note that the ARM926EJ-S has the ARMv5TE architecture.

Regarding what instructions you can use, please refer to the first three pages of the Instruction Set Quick Reference card here.

I read the doc with the instructions more the site passed, they helped me to clarify any questions, but now I have other: there are more "powerfull" DSP instructions or just theses in the "ARM and Thumb 2 Instruction Set" doc?

Yes, I think all the DSP instructions can be found in the "ARM and Thumb2 Instruction Set" document.
