AM335x How to probe da8xx-fb driver?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DA8XX, TLC59108

I tried to probe da8xx-fb driver. ( Linux version is 4.4.12 )

I've changed defconfig file as below.

/arm/configs/am335x-evm_defconfig

# CONFIG_FB_IBM_GXT4500 is not set
-# CONFIG_FB_DA8XX is not set
+CONFIG_FB_DA8XX=y
# CONFIG_FB_VIRTUAL is not set
# CONFIG_FB_METRONOME is not set
# CONFIG_FB_MB862XX is not set
# CONFIG_FB_BROADSHEET is not set
# CONFIG_FB_AUO_K190X is not set
-CONFIG_FB_SIMPLE=y
+# CONFIG_FB_SIMPLE is not set

After compiling kernel driver source files, da8xx-fb.o was found in /drivers/video/fbdev/.

While running system, I can't find any log messages related with da8xx-fb. ( LCD not work )

fb_probe() is not called in da8xx-fb.c

Please let me know how to probe da8xx-fb.c

  • I will forward this to the software team. They will respond here.
  • Hi,

You're trying to get the fbdev driver working, without the drm driver, right?

In that case, you need to:
    - enable:
    CONFIG_FB_DA8XX=y
    CONFIG_FB_DA8XX_TDA998X=y
    - disable:
    CONFIG_DRM
    CONFIG_DRM_I2C_NXP_TDA998X
    CONFIG_DRM_TILCDC
because DRM & fbdev cannot coexist.

Also you need to reconfigure your device tree node, you could take reference from this guide (for older TI SDK):
    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Sitara_Linux_LCDC_Porting_Guide
and adapt to your kernel 4.4.

The following wiki links may also be of use:
    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Processor_SDK_Linux_LCDC

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Dear Yordan.
    Thanks for your reply.
    I modified config you suggested.

I can't still see da8xx driver log message. fb_probe() in da8xx-fb.c is not called.
