DRA74x_hardware: HDMI IBIS model simulation

Dear expert

Our customer use vayu_abc_IBISv1.3.4.zip to  run IBIS model simulation for HDMI.  They noticed no output from clock and data of HDMI interface as they select hdmi.  Is HDMI module available in IBIS v.1.3.4?  If yes,  what we need take carefully?  Customer was able to run other module in IBIS, such as DDR.

Dong

  • Hi, Dong,

Your question has been forwarded to an HDMI expert.

Can you help to check with expert? I did not get answer for three days.

  • Dong,

We do not recommend that the customer performs IBIS simulation for HDMI.  Instead, the customer should follow the Layout guidelines in the device Data Manual.  The layout guidelines have been derived based on extensive simulation by TI, along with extensive validation and will lead to the best implementation for the customer.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

  • Kyle,
Thanks for your response. customer was not sure they follow up the guidelines correctly. That's the reason they ask for IBIS simulation. What's the initial purpose for TI to put HDMI part in IBIS model? If we do NOT support HDMI , can we remove it? If it's HDMI model issue, Can we fix it?

    Regards
    Dong
  • Hi Dong,

Still the advice from Hardware Applications Manager is:

"HDMI layout requirements documented in the data manual need to be applied, and IBIS simulation of the DRA74x HDMI signals is neither recommended nor necessary when following the layout requirements."

    Best regards
    Lucy
  • Hi Lucy,

When I used AM572.ibs to simulate HDMI interface

The simulation topology is shown in Fig.a, and simultion result at output is shown in Fig.b

This output waveform is bad, is it the right waveform?

  • Patty,  It looks like the simulation is meeting the eye diagram requirements (not touching the pink polygon) so I interpret this as PASS.

Nonetheless, we would not recommend performing IBIS simulation as stated above.  We plan to update the IBIS model to remove the HDMI models.

  • Hi Kyle,

But this output waveform didn't inculde any channel characteristic, it's only IC characteristic.

I want to confirm the output waveform is right.

If you plan to update the IBIS model to remove the HDMI models.

Can you provide other formate model to us? ex. spice model for HDMI interface

    Thanks

    Patty

  • Patty, Sorry but we don't have any other model to provide for HDMI.  We recommend following the data manual routing guidelines, and if that is done then the HDMI eye diagram will meet the HDMI spec as stated in the DM.
